Dear Parents, Carers and Students
Yesterday the Department of Education and Training provided regional schools with the option of another student free day (excluding Years 11 and 12 students) to assist with the sudden transition back to Remote Learning. CSC will be taking this day on Monday 10 August. On-line classes for Years 11 and 12 will still occur on this day; however, there will be no online classes or onsite supervision for Years 7-10 students on Monday 10 August. I apologize for the short notice on this.
Yours sincerely

Update from Principal Paul Frye, Click Facemasks requried at CSC from Monday 3 August
FACE MASKS – Key points
From 11:59pm Sunday 2 August everyone in Victoria aged 12 years and over must wear a face covering when leaving home unless you have a lawful reason for not doing so. This applies to all students, teachers, support staff and essential visitors to schools.
A face covering needs to cover both your nose and mouth. It could be a face mask or shield.
- Wearing a face covering protects you and your community by providing an additional physical barrier to coronavirus (COVID-19).
- Keeping 1.5 metres between yourself and others and washing your hands are still the best defences against coronavirus (COVID-19).
- There are a number of lawful excuses for not wearing a face covering including if you have a medical condition or other condition that impairs your ability to wear a face covering, doing strenuous exercise or if you are unable to do your job while wearing a face covering.
- People who do not wear face coverings and do not have a lawful excuse can be fined $200.
How can I make a cloth mask?
Use our guide to make a cloth mask (PDF) that covers your nose and mouth and is made of washable fabric.
Tegar, Nancy and Amy from The Social Studio have produced a video to show the easy steps to make one yourself. Watch how to make a cloth mask.

Method and timing of return to on-site schooling
A staged return for all students
From Tuesday 26 May, all Prep, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students, specialist school students, as well as VCE and VCAL students will return to on-site schooling at government schools.
The time between 12 May and a pupil free day at all government schools on 25 May, will give staff, schools and parents time to prepare for the change.
Vulnerable students in years 3 to 10, and children in those years whose parents or carers cannot work from home, can continue to attend school on-site as needed during this period.
Students in years 3 to 10 will continue to learn remotely until Tuesday 9 June, to give the Government and the Chief Health Officer time to monitor and evaluate the effects that the staged return to school by other year levels has on the increased movement of people and transmission within the community.
Two-stage return
From 12 May to 22 May, schools continue remote and flexible learning and start planning and prepare for return of on-site schooling.
Stage 1
Monday 25 May will be a pupil free day. All teachers and staff on-site to prepare for students’ return.
26 May to 9 June – all Prep, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students, VCE, VCAL and specialist school students return to on-site schooling at government schools.
Stage 2
9 June onwards – students in years 3 to 10 return to on-site schooling.
Why the two-week timeline
The next two weeks will give schools, teachers and families time to plan and prepare for students to return for on-site schooling.

RETURN TO SCHOOL UPDATE
Dear Parents and Carers
Again, thank you for all your support during these past few weeks of remote and flexible learning.
Following advice from the Chief Health Officer, the Victorian Government has advised today that schools can begin a phased return to on-site schooling from Tuesday 26 May.
In the first stage, students in Years 11 and 12 will return to school from Tuesday 26 May.
During this first stage of returning to school (May 26-June 9) Year 10 students undertaking a Year 11 VCE study, including VET studies, should also attend school for those classes where practicable. Year 10 students attending school for VCE or VET classes will be provided with the option of remaining at school in a designated study space if they need to remain at school before or after their Year 11 class (i.e. they will be able to undertake the rest of the day’s Year 10 classes through their Google Classrooms at school if they need to). On days when Year 10 students do not have any timetabled Year 11 classes they will be required to undertake their Year 10 classes from home (until June 9).
To support all school staff to prepare for this transition, Monday 25 May has been designated as a state-wide pupil-free day. This means that CSC has two pupil-free days coming up: Wednesday 20 May (Report Writing day re-scheduled from June 12, as per yesterday’s update) and the new state-wide pupil free day on Monday 25 May. There will be no online classes or supervision for students at school on these days.
In the second stage of our return to on-site schooling, all other year levels will return to school from Tuesday 9 June.
For those students who cannot be supervised at home and vulnerable children, the existing model of on-site schooling will remain in place during the two-week period from Tuesday 26 May to Tuesday 9 June. The current process that we are using to enable parents and carers to indicate the days or part-days for which on-site schooling is required will continue for this two-week period.
All other students in Years 7-10 will continue learning from home until Tuesday 9 June.
Once a year level has returned, all students will be expected to attend school as normal. This means if you choose to keep your child/children home after their year level has returned to on-site schooling, we can no longer support their learning from home. This does not apply to children who need to be absent for health or medical reasons. For those families, please contact us so we can make an appropriate plan. This same approach is being taken by all government schools in Victoria.
To support the health and wellbeing of all our students and staff, our school will continue an enhanced cleaning routine and will encourage frequent hand washing.
If you child is ill or is feeling unwell, they must not attend school. They must remain home and seek medical advice.
While the Chief Health Officer has advised that students will not be required to maintain physical distancing at school, there will be a number of important changes to our school operations, consistent with health advice. This will apply until further notice. I will provide more detail about our local school context as soon as possible, but it is important to note that changes will include:
- no camps or excursions until further notice
- no school assemblies until further notice
- restrictions on access to the school site for anyone other than immediate school staff and students;
- the way we conduct parent-teacher meetings and interviews
We understand that some families may feel anxious about this move back to classroom teaching and learning. I can assure you that this decision has been taken on the basis of the best health advice available to our state.
More information about the return to school and coronavirus (COVID-19) can be found on the Department’s website, which will continue to be updated:
https://www.education.vic.gov.au/about/department/Pages/coronavirus.aspx
Thank you for your continued support and patience during this time. We look forward to welcoming our students back to the classroom.
Yours sincerely
Paul Frye
