The Careers Program at Castlemaine Secondary College is designed to allow all students, but particularly those in Years 9 to 12, the opportunity to explore all the post-secondary school options available to them.
Organised activities at each Year level allow students to explore their interest, likes and talents so that they can make better-informed decisions on their post-secondary school pathways.
In 2019, year 9 students are participating in a new government funded online careers initiative called “The Career Discovery Assessment” run by the Morrisby Organisation.
Year 10 students’ main career focus is a one-week Work Experience opportunity in a work place of their choice.
At years 11 and 12 students are provided with one-to-one careers counselling on tertiary and employment opportunities.
Digital Career Portfolios
All CSC students have a digital career portfolio which is used to record their career exploration activities and plans. This process is undertaken in three stages.
Year 7 and Year 8
Students are supported to begin identifying their personal attributes, strengths, interests and preferences, and to record this information in their career portfolio.
Year 9 and Year 10
A recent DET initiative now enables Year 9 students to develop a detailed, individual Career Insights Profile using the Morrisby vocational assessment tool and supported by an interview with an independent career practitioner. All current Year 9 and Year 10 students can access a digital copy of their Career Insights Profile. As students reflect on the career and study suggestions listed in their profile and consider the subjects offered at CSC, they can use their career portfolio to record and review their plans.
Year 11 and Year 12
Students will meet individually with the CSC Careers Coordinator to review their career portfolio and refine their plans for future study or job search.
