The Course Selection Handbook assists students and their families to understand the diverse learning opportunities at CSC and how these choices can create career pathways and future study options.
Information sessions for students, as well as Course Counselling sessions are held in Term 3 to provide further information and help with course selection. Course counselling sessions can be made through XUNO or by contacting the College.
Wednesday 22nd July: Information sessions for students conducted at school during class time (current Years 9 and 10 students)
Thursday 23rd July – Tuesday 28th July: Course counselling sessions for parents and carers (current Years 9 and 10 students)
Wednesday 29th July: Information sessions for students conducted at school during class time (current Years 8 and 12 students)
Thursday 30th July – Tuesday 4th August: Course counselling sessions for parents and carers (current Years 8 and 12 students)
Monday 19th August: Final day for subject selection submission
Bookings for these telephone interviews can be made via XUNO from 12:00pm on Thursday 16th July. Given these interviews will occur predominantly in school hours, students can join the interviews “face-to-face” at school and parents will be included via telephone. We will contact you for the interview via the phone number we have listed for you on XUNO (unless requested to do otherwise). When you make your booking on XUNO you will be asked to book with “consultant” 1, 2 or 3. The interviews will then be shared amongst the school’s leadership team.
These online resources are useful for all students who would like to explore the wide range of career pathway choices that might suit them. We always encourage students to select school subjects they enjoy and have previously been successful in. Pursuing these will ultimately lead to a fulfilling career for most students.
Digital Career Portfolios
All CSC students have a digital career portfolio which is used to record their career exploration activities and plans. This process is undertaken in three stages.
Year 7 and Year 8
Students are supported to begin identifying their personal attributes, strengths, interests and preferences, and to record this information in their career portfolio.
Year 9 and Year 10
A recent DET initiative now enables Year 9 students to develop a detailed, individual Career Insights Profile using the Morrisby vocational assessment tool and supported by an interview with an independent career practitioner. All current Year 9 and Year 10 students can access a digital copy of their Career Insights Profile. As students reflect on the career and study suggestions listed in their profile and consider the subjects offered at CSC, they can use their career portfolio to record and review their plans.
Year 11 and Year 12
Students will meet individually with the CSC Careers Coordinator to review their career portfolio and refine their plans for future study or job search.
