The Library at Castlemaine Secondary College is a welcoming, well-resourced and supportive environment where the school community can pursue academic goals, enjoy the pleasure of reading, and connect on a social level. Learning spaces have been created to cater for the varied needs of the school, with classroom spaces, a reading area with comfortable seating, and a private study room.
The Library provides access to a wide variety of print and electronic resources to accommodate the diverse needs of students and staff. These include online databases and other digital resources, a specialised non-fiction print collection, recreational reading material in a range of formats and resources to support staff professional learning.
In an increasingly information-rich world, it is essential that students learn how to effectively identify, access, evaluate, organise and communicate information. Library staff introduce students to these skills as part of the Library Passport program, and provide support for the explicit teaching of research skills within the classroom.
The Library also plays an important role in promoting a love of reading. Literary experiences are a core component of the Library and many activities celebrating reading and writing are a feature of the annual calendar. These include:
- book clubs
- CSC Literature Festival
- Literature Enrichment Program
- CSC Reading Challenge
- special literary events
