Year 9 students begin to specialise in their chosen pathways by selecting a their preferred subjects to explore. The core subjects are still a key part of the curriculum, though there is an emphasis on creating a program that matches a students’ specific strengths and interests. Mentor groups continue to meet daily to ensure there is always an engaged staff member to offer support to students (and their parents carers) as and when needed.
Learning
Students continue to study English, Maths, Humanities, Science, Languages, Health and Physical Education. They also begin to specialise by choosing elective subjects (from discipline based electives) and project based electives. Electives allow students to develop a specialised skill set in an area of interest or aptitude and assists in the development of personal awareness, social, thinking and enterprising skills.
A list of these all the CSC electives are in the Course Selection 2019 Handbook which you can access here.
Wellbeing
The Mentor system is the cornerstone of our Wellbeing program for all CSC students. We encourage every student to develop a supportive relationship with their Mentor teacher who then becomes their guide, confidante and ally at CSC. The Wellbeing program offers a range of incursions designed to give students the skills they need to better their interpersonal skills and a greater understanding of the world around them.
Camp
We encourage all Year 9 students to go on camp. Camps are designed to enable better communication through student teamwork, strengthen life skills, friendship bonds and of course to have fun.
Co-curricular activities
We encourage every student to take part in one of the co-curricular activities we offer such as Book Clubs, Music Ensemble, Drama Production, Sport, Chess, Snow Day, Diversity Club and Meeting Place activities. These allow students to gain new skills and experiences in a more relaxed environment without the curriculum framework defining how, when and what is explored.
